Parents influence the upbringing of their child greatly. Not only they help their child financially by helping them complete their studies but also take decisions on behalf of the child which directly affects his future. This is quite apt from the part pf parents but only till certain age. As soon as the child crosses the adolescent age and steps into adulthood, or to be precise when he applies to go for higher studies, the parents should allow him his independence.
Sooner the adults learn that parents are not there forever better it is for their future. An early independence, hence, will allow the young adults to earn for themselves and not depend on their parents for any of their needs. Consequently, they will learn habits like saving and planning for the future. However, late independence will ensure complete financial dependence on parents. The situation might get worse on an unfortuante demise of parents which will push the child to immediately take decisions for which he lacks expereience
An early independence would also ensure that young adults take decisions on their own. Bad decisions leading them to failure will increase their experience. The experience to handle unfavouable conditions, undoubtedly, helps a person grow and attain success in his life. However, if adults remain in the protective shield of their parents, they are unlikely to take decisions of which parents are not a part. Parents will ensure that the decisions being take by their child will not lead him to failure, consequently, denying him the experience he deserves.
Early indepenence allows young adults to live life on their own and live the way they would like. Parents often influence the way their child live. However, they neglect every individual lives in his own way. For example, an adolescent might wish to have a collection of watches because he loves it. However, the parents refuse him to get one because they consider it a waste of money. If the child, once he grows into an adult, is given independence he can go on to get a collection of watch from his own money and lead a life in his own terms.
All in all, early independence will ensure an early learning for young adults which will help them in their future endeavours.
The reading explains about altruism. Altruism is opposite of selfishness and refers to the act of an animal putting others interest before itself. In support of the topic, reading presents before us examples of altruism practiced by human beings and Meerkat, mammals living in African grasslands. The professor in the lecture, however, opposes the examples presented in the reading.
First, accroding to the passage, human beings donate organs to family members, and in some cases even to strangers. This unselfish act shows human beings practicing altruism. According to the passage, the people who have donated organs do not get much in return. This is opposed by the lecturer. According to her, they do receive appreciation and gain self worth. Consequently, human act of donation of organs cannot be regarded as an act of atruism because there is a reward associated to it.
Second, the reading presents an example of mammals named Meerkat. According to the passage, one of the Meerkat stands ground as a sentinel while the others hunt for food. The sentinel does not eat but ensures others eat in safety by alrming them if a predator approaches. While the other Meerkats run to safety, the sentinel ensures not to leave the ground unless all others are safe. Hence, this act of putting one’s life before others appears as an act of altruism. The professor in the lecture, however, refutes the details mentioned in the passage. She presents a study conducted which clearly states that the Meerkat working as sentinal eats before the others go for hunting and eating. Also, the sentinel stands ground near a burrow, hence, the sentinel is most likely to run to the safety first. According to her the study also revealed that once the sentinel raises the alarm, the other Meerkats either start running in groups or start to disperse. This attracts the predator more towards the hunting Meerkat instead of the sentinel. Hence, according to the lecturer Meerkat is also not a perfect example of animals practising Altruism.
<<Good qualities of parents>>
If anyone asks me what is the best gift God has presented me, my answer will be my parents. Parents, with the care they provide, define the future of their child. Children without parents either have to search for guardians or endeavour themselves to shape their future and become able citizens. Hence, good parents is a gift everyone long for. However, not all parents have that quality of being good. Children under the guidance of parents who are not at all caring or good in behaviour end up growing up as a bad citizen. It is not difficult to figure out some good qualities a parent has which helps in good upbringing of her child.
First, the parent must be caring. Taking care of the child not only helps in making the child a good citizen who helps the nation to move forward in every possible way but also helps to make the child a good parent when he grows up. For example, there may be a child whose parents berate him on every mistake he does instead to conveying what is the right thing to do. Such child grow up to learn that whenever someone does a wrong deed he should be catigated instead of being given a suggestion. This obviously doesn’t work within the society which needs mistakes to be solved and never repeated.
Second, the parents should also have peace amongst themselves. There are families where parents usually have a fight amongst themselves over petty issues. This negatively effects the psyche of their children. The children of the families where love prevails and there is usually peace all around, learn to disseminate love. This positively effects others and society at large. For example, a child who watches his parents fight over all petty issues grow to learn that those issues are actually quite big. When these children go to college they involve themselves in melee and make the environment unfriendly. This negatively effects the environment of whole college.
Third, the parents should practice self-abnagation. There may be times when a family face financial issues. During that time a parent should ensure that needs of the child should be prioritized over his own interests. The parent must ensure that his child gets education no matter what the financial condition is. For example, if the financial condition is so poor that he cannot admit the child in private schools, he should probably look for free education provided by the government. If there is not enough money with the family and it can only be spent either to buy children books to study or buy parent a new watch, the parent should prioritize the child’s need.
All in all, a good parent is the one who takes care of his child in all possible ways and helps him grow as a good citizen who not only helps nation grow but also become good parent and impart same principles which he was taught.
The reading states that using technology in teaching greatly benefits the students in understanding concepts they are being taught. There are many benefits of using technology in education, for example it provides variety of learning tools, concepts become easy to learn and also the boundaries of the classes becom extended when students connect to each other via internet. The reading presents before us a study conducted in a classroom. According to which, the students who were trained using computers scored higher in mathematics than those who were taught in the traditional style. The lecturer supports this by presenting an example of another school which trained its teachers for using technology and made them train students over a period of two years. This not only helped the students understand the concepts better but also helped them secure good ranks in the state examinations.
The reading also stated that even though technology has benefits over traditional education yet it is not being used on large scale. It says that a very low percentage of teachers use technology in practice. Lecturer supports the point by stating a survey that was conducted to find out the use of technology in education. The surveyed teachers reported that they were only given a basic training of computers. This helped them hone their skills but did not help them use computer to teach and make students understand the concepts better. Moreover, the training given to them was quite brief, sometimes for around five hours, which is clearly quite less to change the approach of teaching.
All in all, keeping in mind the benefits of using technology in education, the teachers must be provided with adequate training to use it while educating the students. With the experiments done and surveys held it is quite clear that using technology will not only help students in understanding the concepts better but will also help them secure better results.
